With the successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, it’s been all eyes on the next revolutionary Assassin’s Creed title called Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Being brewed for over four years and counting, co-developed with Ubisoft Dusseldorf, Ubisoft Belgrade, Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm, Ubisoft Berlin and our very own Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune studios; we could not wait to give fans a taste of this whole new way to play an Assassin’s Creed game. Here’s our story of how we put Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR on the in-real-life open world.

To kick things off, prior to release, we gathered our development and PR teams to chart a journey of 713kms where we planned to give an early glimpse into Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR at the India Game Developer Conference held at Hyderabad from 2nd to 4th November, 2023. The reception was nothing short of spectacular.

We began with a short presentation on what it’s like to build a game on VR. Through our expert devs who worked directly on the game, this was one of many firsts for Ubisoft Mumbai. Imparting first-hand knowledge that one would seldom gain otherwise; we witnessed a full-house attendance and a thunderous applause from hundreds of fans and budding game developers.

Following this successful presentation, the team headed to a closed-doors preview of Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR at the same venue. Gaming media, influencers and even some lucky fans were invited for an exclusive look at the game, getting a hands-on of the hidden blades like never before.

From this preview, we took the road towards the launch date. A grand celebration in our studios was planned for, post the country’s Diwali season. Our colleagues were welcomed back to the studios after a break with their very own previews of the game. A fantastic in-studio celebration and great reviews by the media – the thrilled Nexus VR team took their celebrations to the outside world, bringing their hard work to closure.

We took our game on another journey – this time a distance of nearly a 1000kms to the heart of geek culture – Comic Con Bangalore. Eagerly awaiting queues with itching palms to play, a cosplay performance, and as always, a sea of folks dancing to the latest Just Dance 2024 Edition – the energy was madness to say the least.

As our final quest, we hosted one last showcase – this time a peek into the game as well as the Ubisoft Mumbai studio itself. A very exclusive Media Day was hosted on 25th November, 2023 at our location in Hiranandani Powai where journalists and influencers alike came together for a presentation followed by a chance to step into the boots of an assassin. Kicking things off with a presentation that painted a picture of Ubisoft Mumbai’s five glorious years and the kinds of projects it had contributed to over the last half decade, the air was filled with intrigue. The producers on Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR as well as Just Dance 2024 Edition shared their insights on the game and how our Mumbai studio contributed to much of the games’ production at a global level. Some of the largest media houses in the local gaming industry graced the event with their presence taking off their headsets and controllers all smiles and their fandom hearts full.

The milestones that our studios have reached are just a small trailer of great things to come from the studios at Ubisoft India. Until then watch this space for more amazing things to come in the year 2024.
